Age-friendly British Columbia
![]()
British Columbia has supported the creation of age-friendly communities since 2007. An evaluation of the first three years of age-friendly implementation in British Columbia was prepared by the Age-friendly Communities Implementation Team. The team’s findings are available in the report Age-friendly British Columbia-Lessons learned from October 1, 2007 to September 30, 2010.
The Ministry of Health, through the Seniors’ Healthy Living Secretariat, is continuing to work with local governments to support local age-friendly initiatives. An age-friendly community coordinator is in place to support and advise communities. As well, the Secretariat has developed new tools and resources to help communities get started in Becoming an Age-friendly Community, and an Age-friendly B.C. Recognition Program to celebrate communities that have taken key steps to become age-friendly.
