Organizations that Provide Support to People with Specific Diseases



Counselling Services


  • B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors - Online Private Practice Referral List provides referrals to members of the public who are seeking a counsellor.

  • B.C. Bereavement Helpline - Provides counselling and support for individuals experiencing grief.

  • Mental Health Information Line - The 24-hour line provides pre-recorded information about mental health services across B.C., as well as symptoms, causes, treatments, support groups and publications on a number of mental illnesses.

  • Vancouver Island Crisis Line - Providing 24-Hour crisis line support and resources for Vancouver Island and B.C.
    Toll-free: 1-888-494-3888


Food Delivery


 

Many retail grocers provide delivery services. Contact your local/preferred store to find out about availability of delivery. In addition, delivery is available from the following:

  • Safeway Teleshop (250) 370-1669 or fax (250) 370-5198. A Senior and shut-in volunteer shopping service. Free delivery with a minimum order of $25.00.

  • Thrifty Foods Sendial Seniors and Disabled Volunteer Shopping Service. Free delivery if order over $25.00, $2 if order under $25.

  • B.C. Meals on Wheels - Provides links to local food delivery programs.

Medical Equipment


  • The Canadian Red Cross - Health Equipment Loan Programs provide a variety of health care equipment on a short or long term basis.

  • The Canadian National Institute for the Blind - Provides a variety of vision loss consumer products & assistance technology.

  • B.C. Palliative Care Benefits Program - B.C. residents who wish to receive palliative care services at home can receive assistance from the provincial government with the cost of palliative medications, medical supplies and medical equipment. All B.C. residents who are enrolled in the Medical Services Plan and who wish to receive palliative care at home can request their physician to assess their medical eligibility for the program and submit an application on their behalf.
