  1. How can I use this website?

    There is a Search box at the top of every page in this website, next to the B.C. logo. To find information on a specific topic, type your topic in the Search box and click the 'Go' button to see the results.

    Read the Site Guide to help you get the most from your website. The site guide is intended for all users, including those who are new to the Internet. Try using the Site Map to see the structure of the website. The site map provides an overview of all the topic areas on the site.

  2. How can I subscribe to the SeniorsBC.ca e-Newsletter?

    Go to the e-Newsletter subscription page. Under "Enter Your Information", enter your email address. Under "Which e-newsletters do you want to receive?", tick the box next to "HSERV-SeniorsBC.ca". Under "Complete Subscription", click the "Subscribe" button. Your email address will be added to the subscription list, and you will receive future issues of the e-Newsletter by email.

  3. As a senior, I know I'm entitled to certain benefits. Do you have a list of these benefits?

    Go to our Benefits section for a list of benefits available to B.C. seniors, organized by topic.

  4. Are there seniors' discounts on travel and transit?

    Many discounts are available for seniors. Our Public Transit page gives details on transit discounts, including the B.C. Bus Pass Program. For information on discounts with BC Ferries, see our Ferries page. Discounts are also available on some driver-licensing services and on automobile insurance.

  5. A senior I know is having difficulty living on their own. What options does this person have?

    Many types of seniors housing are available, depending on the amount of support an individual needs. Our Supported Housing Options page discusses this topic.

  6. What is Fair PharmaCare and how do I register?

    The Fair PharmaCare Plan is a program that helps individuals pay for eligible prescription drugs and designated medical supplies. For more information, and to find out how to register, see our PharmaCare page.

  7. As a senior, are there things I should keep in mind when filing my income taxes?

    Our Income Tax page lists several issues that are important for seniors at tax time. We also discuss the most asked-about tax credits.

  8. Who should I contact for information on a government pension or other income assistance?

    There are many kinds of income assistance, from both the federal and provincial governments. See our Income Security page for details.

  9. I have difficulty walking and find it hard to use public transit. Are there other options?

    You may be eligible for the HandyDart service, which provides transit in specially equipped vehicles, or the Taxi Saver program, which offers reduced rates on taxi services.

  10. Can I get a discount on my property taxes or put off paying them until a future year?

    B.C. residents who own the home in which they live may be eligible for the Additional Home Owner Grant, which reduces their property taxes. It is sometimes possible to defer property-tax payments to the future.

  11. On my income, I'm having trouble paying my rent. Is there a program to help seniors like me?

    You may be eligible for the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters(SAFER) program. SAFER provides monthly cash payments to eligible B.C. seniors. For information on SAFER and other affordable-housing options, see our Rental and Affordable Housing page.

  12. I've lost my CareCard. How do I get a replacement?

    Our Medical Services page provides information on CareCards, the Medical Services Plan and related topics.

  13. How can I help a senior who I think is being abused or neglected?

    Our section on Elder Abuse can put you in touch with resources to help.

  14. How do I arrange a congratulatory message for a senior who's reaching a significant birthday or anniversary?

    The B.C. government can arrange for congratulatory messages for seniors celebrating significant birthdays or wedding anniversaries.

  15. I'm interested in seniors' issues. Can you recommend some resources?

    Our Resources section has many links relating to seniors-related research and policy.
